Political Commercial
Thanks to my agent, Talent Trek Nashville, I was recently privileged to have the opportunity to act in a political commercial titled “We Did Not Comply” for Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Now, when I first heard about the project, we weren’t given a ton of information about what the commercial was going to be. I knew it involved a political campaign, and I knew the basic premise involved making fun of the idea of men competing in women’s sports. If you know me, you probably aren’t surprised that I jumped at the opportunity to be involved.
Luckily, they chose me for the production, and I ended up playing the role of a head coach of a university running team. It was a fun role, and the entire experience was a good reminder of why I enjoy acting and being on set just as much as I enjoy working behind the camera.
Everyone involved was great. The other actors were talented, the production crew was extremely professional, and it was also another opportunity for me to meet people in the industry I hadn’t worked with before. That’s one of the things I really enjoy about doing this kind of work. Every production seems to introduce me to another group of creative people and another production team.
There was, however, one small problem.
It was August.
And I was wearing a full suit.
And we were shooting outside.
Yeah… it was hot.
Very hot.
In fact, I spent a good portion of the production shooting my takes and then immediately having the makeup team come over to help deal with the sweat running down my face. Those ladies were absolute professionals and incredibly gracious about the whole thing, but let’s just say there was no shortage of perspiration happening on that particular shoot.
Fortunately, everyone took it in stride, and we got the job done.
Even better, I somehow managed to get all of my lines right! That’s always a good thing when you’re standing in front of a camera surrounded by an entire production crew.
The finished commercial, “We Did Not Comply,” turned out to be a pretty funny spot and was clearly designed to communicate Governor Sanders’ position on the issue of transgender participation in women’s sports. The campaign describes the ad as part of its 2026 reelection advertising campaign.
For me, regardless of the politics surrounding any particular production, this was another great experience and another piece of work to add to my acting reel. That’s really what I enjoy about these opportunities: meeting talented people, learning something new, getting in front of the camera, and hopefully creating something that people remember.
I’ve been fortunate over the years to work on a pretty wide variety of projects, both behind and in front of the camera. My background in video production, filmmaking and creative content has given me a different perspective when I’m acting because I understand what is happening on the other side of the camera, too.
And that’s something I really enjoy.
So, another production in the books, another group of talented people I’ve had the opportunity to work with, and another addition to the demo reel.
I’ll take it.
